Excel Formula Builder
Describe what you want to calculate and get a working formula for Excel, older Excel, and Google Sheets, with an explanation.
Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Explain a formula
Convert separators (comma ↔ semicolon)
Excel in many European locales uses ; between arguments and , for decimals.
How it works
- Choose a task, such as looking up a value, summing with conditions, or extracting text.
- Fill in your cells and ranges. The formula updates as you type.
- Copy the version for your spreadsheet: Excel 365, older Excel, or Google Sheets.
- Paste any existing formula into the explainer to see its structure and what each function does.
Formulas that work the first time
Most spreadsheet problems are the same dozen tasks: find a value in another sheet, add up rows that match conditions, put numbers into bands, clean up imported text, or count unique customers. The hard part is remembering the exact argument order, how to write a "greater than" condition that points at a cell, and which functions your version of Excel supports.
The builder writes the formula from a form, quotes text and conditions correctly, locks ranges
with $ where you will fill down, and gives a fallback for older Excel when the modern
function is not available.
Tasks covered
- Lookups with XLOOKUP and INDEX/MATCH
- SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, and AVERAGEIFS with up to three conditions, including conditions that reference cells
- Grade, tier, and commission bands with IFS or nested IF
- Percent change, share of total, running totals, ranks, top N, and duplicate flags
- FILTER, UNIQUE, and counting unique values
- Joining, splitting, extracting, and cleaning text
- Date math: days and working days between dates, adding months, month end, age, month name, quarter
Explain and convert
Paste a long nested formula from a colleague's workbook and see it laid out one argument per line, with a plain-English description of every function. If a formula from a tutorial gives an error because your Excel uses semicolons, convert the separators in one click.

FAQ
Does my data get uploaded or stored?
No. Processing runs entirely in your browser. Structura does not upload your files for processing and does not keep file contents on a server. Closing the tab clears the in-memory copy.
Is processing private / local-only?
Yes for the tool’s job. Your files stay on the device. Optional Cloudflare Web Analytics may record page views and anonymous events such as tool runs and downloads, never file contents or file names.
Should I use XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP?
Use XLOOKUP if you have Excel 2021, Microsoft 365, or Google Sheets. In older Excel, INDEX/MATCH is more reliable than VLOOKUP because it does not break when columns are inserted.
How do I write a SUMIFS condition that uses a cell?
Join the operator to the cell with &, for example ">="&F1. The builder does this automatically when you enter a cell reference as the value.
Why does my formula give an error in European Excel?
Many European locales use semicolons between arguments and commas for decimals. Paste the formula into the converter and choose To semicolons.
Do the formulas work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Each recipe shows a Google Sheets version; where Sheets uses a different function, such as SPLIT or COUNTUNIQUE, that version is used.
Do I need an account?
No. All Structura tools are free to use without signup.
